The sandy beach can suit everyone who intend to stay out for the day and enjoy the beach clubs along the bay that provide the service of shops, snack bars, restaurants, cafes, sun beds, umbrellas and still space on the wide beaches that specialize in adventure water sports such as pedal boats,  para sailing, paragliding, jet skis, banana rides, speed boats trips, diving exploring fascinating prey-historic caves surrounding Mellieha and Comino coast .There are frequent boat trips around the islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino and more.

The main town is a quaint village up the hill with all sorts of shops where you can pick up a bargain, souvenir shops, supermarkets, banks, ATM’s, trendy restaurants, cafes AL fresco and various cultural organizations, including band clubs, sports clubs, various religious societies, parish community center, piazza square enjoying panoramic views as far as Gozo and Comino, sister islands of Malta.

The majestic baroque church, a land mark is dedicated to “Our Lady of Victories’. It is believed a holy statue situated in an underground cavern has special healing qualities.

High lights of the Feast celebrations starts from the 30th August till the 9th September, with the parish square   organizing activities like musical programs, concerts, marches round the streets accompanied by enthusiastic supporters, colorful fireworks which can be seen from roof garden of the apartment, lighting up the skies, creating a merrier feeling among the present people .and ground fireworks with amazing effects.

Ghadira

Natural Reserve: declared a bird sanctuary in 1978, situated in the bay.

Armir Bay:  This sandy bay has lovely open views of the Islands of Comino and Gozo and a stunning sunset.

Popeye’s Village: Was a film set in 1980 The Popeye’s Village has daily shows, slides, trampolines, Lido and cafeteria.

St. Agatha’s Tower: Known as the Red Tower, 1647 for communication with the island of Gozo, dominates the skyline of Malta’s Marfa Ridge. It originally housed cannons

White Tower Bay: Enclosed by a fortification wall that was built by the knights in 1658.

Island of Gozo;

The Gozo ferry from Cirkewwa (10/15 minutes on the bus from Mellieha) run every 30 minutes to the sister island.

Take a boat trip to sail across the placid waters, and then spend the day exploring the caves of the blue lagoon on the tiny island of Comino, sunbathing, swimming, diving, paragliding, jet skis, organized Bar-b-q and sun set party boats.

History

Mellieha is a large village in the North-western part of Malta and acquired the name from the Semitic which means salt. Some believe it meant honey, from the color of the stone. It has been inhabited since early Neolithic times (3000 B.C). Several megalithic remains and tombs of this era and other primitive tools and pottery were found in various localities round the village.

The Roman and Byzantine occupation in213B.C, Mellieha became inhabited by troglodytes who dwelled in caves and buried their loved ones in Punic style.

During the medieval 870 – 1530A.D. the valley got deserted due to continues raids of the Corsairs.

During the 17th Century the Knights build several fortifications to protect the inhabitants

Under the British lionization in 1844, Mellieha was established as a parish to encouraged people to settle in the area by giving leases to the population.

Today Mellieha prides the award for “European Destination of Excellence” by preserving its great archaeological and its unique environment.
